Free Fire is officially back in India as Free Fire India launches
Free Fire has returned to India. Garena’s Free Fire India launched on October 28 and is now available to download on the Google Play Store, more than four and a half years after the original Free Fire was blocked in the country in February 2022. Garena had confirmed the launch date a day earlier in a video on the official Free Fire India YouTube channel.
Free Fire India is a separate app built for the Indian market, not a return of the old listing. Garena first announced it in August 2023 with MS Dhoni as brand ambassador and player data stored in India, but that launch was called off just before release. Free Fire MAX stayed available to Indian players throughout and continues alongside the new app.
The India version comes with new player safeguards. Players aged 18 and above can play up to six hours a day, while players under 18 are limited to three hours a day and need parental consent with phone number verification. Spending caps on in-game purchases and regular break reminders are also part of the launch.
For India’s Free Fire esports scene, which has kept running through Free Fire MAX events such as the Free Fire MAX India Cup, the return of a dedicated India app is one of the biggest moments of the year.
